Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the production of insoluble matter during developing and make possible developing of a large amount of positive type photosensitive lithographic printing plates by using the aqueous solution of the alkali metal silicate containing the specific amount of potassium as a developing solution (replenisher). CONSTITUTION:The developing solution (replenisher) in which potassium occupy more than 20% (gram atom equivalent) of the total alkali metals contained out thereof is used as the aqueous alkali metal silicate developing solution (replenisher) used in developing of the positive type photosensitive lithographic printing plate (PS plate) using o-quinone diazide compound as its photosensitive agent. Potassium hydroxide, potassium borate, potassium pyrophosphate, etc. are used as the abovememntioned potassium sources (the use of potassium chloride, potassium nitrate, etc. is almost non-effectual). The SiO2(gram molecule)/M(gram atom ratio of alkali metals) ratios are preferably about 0.5 to 0.75 with the developing solution and about 0.25 to 0.75 with the replenisher. The abovementioned developing solution (replenisher) is particularly highly effectice for the positive type PS plate using anodized Al plate as its substrate.
