Abstract

PURPOSE: To find a crack and a structual defect by a method wherein the frequency spectrum information of the sound produced when an article of cast metal is hit is processed by a microcomputer and compared with the standard frequency.
CONSTITUTION: An article 1 of cast metal is hit by a hitting apparatus 2, and the radiating sound produced is collected by a microphone 3. This signal produced by hitting is amplified by a front amplifier 4, an amplifier 5, removing unnecessary components of frequency of a wave filter 6, then added to an A/D converter 7. Next, sampling of the signal of a time system and making it into a quantum necessary for the Fourier converting process are conducted by the A/D converter.
