Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the good sensible images of superior reproducibility of the images and high gradation characteristic by applying alternating electric fields between a photosensitive drum and toner support roll and selectively applying the magnetic fields of differenct magnetic flux densities.
CONSTITUTION: A toner carrying body 11 is so disposed as to have a minute clearance from a photoreceptor 2 and alternating electric fields are applied between the both by a power source 23. Reciprocating motion is created in the toner by the action of the alternating electric fields and this enables the development of high gradation characteritics to be performed. However, when the original is colored paper, photographic fogs are liable to occur. Thereupon, a magnet 13 having magnetic poles N1WN4, S1WS4 is provided in the toner carrying body 11 and is positioned by a shaft 15. The intensities of the magnetic poles are made in the order of N1>S1>N2. By adjusting the intensites of their magnetic fields, the toner transfer threshold values having been energized by the foregoing alternating electric fields are controlled. As a result of this, if N1 is used for colored paper and the weak magnet of N2 for white paper, the good sensible images free from photographic fogs may be obtained.
