Abstract

PURPOSE: To recognize the specific characters in the character train consisting of English capital and small letters and numerals, by taking the information of characters having predetermined category such as height and position of the characters before and after as the criteria.
CONSTITUTION: The printed characters are scanned with the quantizing separation circuit 91, the black part is converted as 1 and the white ground as 0 of binary pattern and separation is made to each one character. The uppermost and lowermost end detection circuit 92 detects the upper end T and lower end B of the quantizing pattern separated and sets them to a part of the register 95. The category discrimination circuit 93 overlaps the standard pattern with the quantizing pattern and the minimum standard pattern in difference is outputted to the register 95 as the category name. The content of the register 95 is written in the buffer 6 and one line's share is sequentially stored. The average value calculation circuits 16, 17 obtain respectively the heights of character α, β of the categories SA, SB. In the multiplexer 10, the data of the buffer 6 is set to the register 40 and the retrieval circuit 4 checks whether or not the content is within the category SB registered in the memory 410. The projection judgement circuit 41 makes judgement with this retrieval signal.
