Description
【0001】
Sig_G table tag:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present inventiontargetConsidering the glossiness ofFormationAbout.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Today, the image quality of images output by electrophotographic printers and color copiers has improved dramatically, reaching the image quality of offset printing. This is due to the improvement of the image forming process such as charging, development, transfer, fixing and cleaning, and further the expansion of the color reproduction range in the saturation direction of the toner.
[0003]
On the other hand, printers and color copiers are connected to a network and used as a multi-function printer (MFP). For this reason, images have been input from various devices to a printer or a color copying machine via a network, and it has become difficult to match the colors of these images. In order to solve such inconvenience, various color management methods have been proposed. One of them is the color management system (CMS) that uses the ICC (International Color Consortium) profile, which is becoming the de facto standard.
[0004]
Today, users can create their own ICC profiles and output images that have undergone color conversion on a computer (PC) to the printer, or download the created ICC profiles to a printer or RIP (Raster Image Processor) Thus, it is possible to perform color matching, and software and a colorimeter for the user to create a profile are commercially available. Therefore, an environment in which a user with a certain degree of knowledge can perform color matching with a target color is being prepared.
[0005]
In addition, a new image forming device that outputs images by connecting multiple image forming devices to a network server in order to realize remote proofing and cluster printing for outputting color-adjusted images at each site. How to use is spreading.
[0006]
Also, the color conversion processing of the image forming apparatus is to perform RGB conversion of the RGB signal input from the scanner into a CMY signal, and UCR processing the CMY signal to generate a K (black) component to obtain a CMYK signal. . Color conversion between device-dependent color spaces such as scanner RGB to printer CMYK is not a problem in closed image forming environments such as copiers, but there are various color spaces for signals input to the MFP. Therefore, color matching cannot be achieved with the above method. Therefore, an image can be converted into a device-independent color space (for example, CIE Lab) using the ICC profile mechanism, and then converted to a printer color space signal using the printer ICC profile. It has also been adopted for color conversion processing of forming apparatuses. It is easy to download the ICC profile to such an image forming apparatus. For example, the latest ICC profile is sequentially downloaded in order to minimize the color change accompanying the durability deterioration.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The ICC profile has a reputation for color matching because it describes information for accurately mapping color information to other devices or to a device-independent color space. However, it is not only the color that affects the impression of the output image. In particular, glossiness is closely related to color, and glossiness often affects the appearance such as presence and luxury. ICC recognizes the importance of glossiness, and the ICC profile includes rough gloss information of “glossy / matte” as attribute information, but this information is not used effectively.
[0008]
In addition, even though the ICC profile for glossy paper is selected and color conversion is performed, plain paper is often selected in the output settings. The function to do is desired.
[0010]
The present inventiontargetGlossiness information described in the profile and recording media that can be used for image formationGlossinessIn response to theAs faithful as possible to the glossiness of the targetimageTheThe purpose is to form.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, image processing according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

FIG. 2 is a diagram showing the structure of the ICC profile, which includes two basic elements, a
[0030]
The ICC profile includes a required public tag that is designed to provide a complete set of information necessary for the CMM to convert color information between the PCS and the device-dependent color space. It is included. In addition, ICC profiles are optional public tags that can be used to perform additional transformations, and private tags that can be customized by individual developers to add dedicated values to the ICC profile. May be included.
[0031]
To perform color conversion of input data, profile description tag, device manufacturer tag, device model name tag, media XYZ white point tag, UCCMS private information tag, copyright tag, RGB relative XYZ Colorant tags containing tristimulus values, R (red) channel, G (green) channel and B (blue) channel gamma tags are required.
[0032]
To perform color conversion for screen display, a profile description tag, a device manufacturer tag, a device model name tag, a media XYZ white point tag, a copyright tag, a color material tag including relative values such as RGB phosphors, R Channel, G channel, and B channel gamma tags are required.
[0033]
To perform output color conversion for hard copy, profile description tag, device manufacturer tag, device model name tag, AtoB0 tag, BtoA0 tag, gamut tag, AtoB1 tag, BtoA1 tag, AtoB2 tag, BtoA2 tag, UCCMS Private information tags, XYZ media white point tags, measurement tags and copyright tags are required.
[0034]
The AtoBx tag has either an ICC lut8Type or an ICC lut16Type structure. The general-purpose model of ICC lut8Type or ICC lut16Type structure is as follows.
Matrix → 1D LUT → Multidimensional LUT → 1D LUT
[0035]
If the tag has a lut8Type structure, the input and output LUTs and the color LUT are arrays of 8-bit unsigned values. Each input table consists of a 1-byte integer. Each entry in the input table is appropriately standardized in the range of 0 to 255.
[0036]
The AtoBx tag included in the ICC profile for the output device includes a color conversion table for converting from the CMYK color space to another color space, and is used as a so-called source (also referred to as target) profile.
[0037]
On the other hand, the BtoAx tag for the output device is reverse in color conversion, includes information for converting from the Lab color space to the CMYK color space, and is mainly referred to when used as a destination profile.
[0038]
AtoB0 and BtoA0 tags are tags for perceptual color conversion, mainly for color preservation suitable for photographic images that emphasize gradation (gradation) reproduction, assuming brightness preservation. For color matching.
[0039]
AtoB1 and BtoA1 tags are used to perform color conversion that minimizes the color difference. When the output device color reproduction range is wider in all areas than that of the target, and when there is no image in the high saturation area This is effective. In addition, color matching is adopted for color reproduction of logo marks such as company emblems because of strict color rules.
[0040]
AtoB2 and BtoA2 tags are used for color conversion that preserves saturation and are not suitable for gradation reproduction, but are mainly used for color matching of business graphic images.
[0041]
The gamut tag is a one-dimensional one-output one-dimensional lookup table (LUT) that describes whether or not the output device can be reproduced for the input channel (Lab). It has the same format as the AtoB0 tag.

Thus, the
[0044]
The tag table 40 includes a list of tags and information about the tags for both public and private tags. As previously mentioned, public tags define normal color conversion operations that can be used in all ICC profiles. An example of a public tag defined by the tag table 40 is AtoB2 including two sets of 3 × 3 color conversion matrix processing, a three-dimensional LUT, and three one-dimensional LUTs. Other examples of public tags are described in more detail in the ICC profile format document.

The ICC profile in the initial state of the printer is provided by the device manufacturer. However, the profile provided by the device manufacturer is standard color conversion information, and the owned device does not necessarily have standard characteristics. For this reason, users such as the design industry and printing industry, who place importance on color matching, can make more accurate color matching using commercially available ICC profile creation software, ICC profile creation services provided by device manufacturers and software manufacturers, etc. Try to get. In consideration of such users, the color copying machine according to the present embodiment can also download ICC profiles prepared by the users to each profile storage unit.

In the color copying machine of the present embodiment, two modes, a normal mode and a gloss mode, are prepared as image output modes. The gloss mode is an image forming mode in which fixing conditions and recording paper conditions are set in order to improve the glossiness of the output image. Since the color changes as the glossiness of the image changes, the output

[Gloss control]
Japanese Laid-Open Patent Publication No. 2-32481 discloses a technique for acquiring paper type, particularly paper thickness information from a paper feeding unit, and controlling the fixing temperature and pressure or the paper transport speed based on the paper type information. The invention is disclosed and solves the problem of fixing failure and heat source capacity by such a configuration. In addition, as a paper type detection method, a method based on a recording paper density disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-234610, a method based on spectral reflectance disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 9-114267, There is a method using regular reflection light and irregular reflection light disclosed in Japanese Patent No. 198093.
[0069]
Further, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-91510 proposes a method in which a user inputs paper type information from an operation unit without providing a paper type (paper thickness) information sensor. This method is currently mainstream in image forming apparatuses. In the color copying machine of the present embodiment as well, provision of information related to the paper thickness is basically performed by the user operating the
[0070]
The fixing control based on the paper thickness is sufficiently effective for preventing a so-called high temperature offset in which an unfixed image or a toner image is peeled off from the recording paper and attached to the fixing roller.
[0071]
On the other hand, a method for controlling glossiness (gloss control) with variable fixing speed, pressure, oil application amount, etc. is disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 9-16315. However, as shown in FIG. 7, a change in glossiness with respect to density occurs. In other words, in the case of an electrophotographic method that employs area gradation only by controlling the fixing

[0086]
FIG. 12 is a diagram showing fixing control for each mode.
[0087]
[Glossy mode selection]
In addition to the gloss mode selection by the user, the gloss mode may be selected under the following conditions.
・ "Glossy" is described in the target profile
・ No matte paper
[0088]
The condition “the target profile has“ glossy ”is described” refers to the attribute tag of the target profile to determine whether to form an image in the glossiness mode. In other words, if “Glossy” is described in the attribute tag of the target profile, the gloss mode is set (fixing conditions, paper type, gloss mode destination ICC profile for image output), and the image is formed To do.
[0089]
The condition “matte paper does not exist” means that the toner has a low degree of melting when an image is formed on glossy paper under normal fixing conditions in the absence of standard paper (matte paper) or the like. The base of the image has a glossy feeling, and the output image has a sense of incongruity where the glossiness is low where the toner is placed. Such images are particularly disliked in human images and have high gloss in areas where the image ratio is low, such as skin color, and low gloss in areas where the image ratio is high, such as hair and clothes. This results in a low-quality image that does not reach the printed matter. In order not to output such a low-quality image, an image is formed in the gloss mode when there is only glossy paper.
[0090]
As described above, according to the present exemplary embodiment, it is possible to download a color conversion profile, determine whether the downloaded profile is for the gloss mode, and control registration (storage) of the downloaded profile according to the determination. To do. Further, when the image formation in the gloss mode is instructed, it is determined whether there is glossy paper, and the image formation is controlled according to the determination.
[0091]
Further, in the gloss mode, the gloss mode is set so that the gloss condition is close to the target output environment with reference to the gloss condition of the target profile, and gloss matching is possible.
[0092]
Furthermore, it is possible to execute image formation in the gloss mode under conditions such as “glossy” is described in the target profile, or no matte paper is present.
[0093]
Second Embodiment
The image processing according to the second embodiment of the present invention will be described below. Note that in the present embodiment, the same reference numerals are given to substantially the same configurations as those in the first embodiment, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.
[0094]
In the second embodiment, an example will be described in which information for realizing more accurate gloss matching is incorporated into an image forming apparatus in a private tag of an ICC profile.
[0095]
The ICC profile may include a public tag required for color matching by a general CMM, an optional public tag used for additional conversion, and a private tag used for a custom CMM. Glossiness information can be included in this private tag. In other words, since glossiness information is described in addition to the two levels of glossy / matte glossiness information of the attribute tag, the glossiness information obtained by the paper type detection unit 207 and the glossiness information included in the private tag are included. It can be used to create an environment that provides a more faithful and glossy output image desired by the user.
[0096]
The following is the glossiness information included in the private tag.
ave_G tag: Average gloss of C, M, Y, Bk, R, G, B and 3K
Sig_G table tag: Signal sum (0 to 300%) vs. glossiness (0 to 100)
white_G tag: Media glossiness (Glossiness of patches where each image signal is 0%)
Here, the signal sum is the sum of each color component signal.
[0097]
By changing the configuration that refers to the attribute tag in the first embodiment to the configuration that refers to the white_G tag in the private tag, more accurate gloss matching can be performed. Furthermore, by registering (storing) the target profile and destination profile according to the glossiness of the recording paper, it is possible to select the glossiness of the recording paper with high accuracy and enable more faithful gloss matching. .

[Gloss matching]

It should be noted that it is desirable to understand the mechanism of the color copying machine of the present embodiment, and to store a plurality of types of recording paper in the paper feed unit. Further, when the difference ΔG in glossiness with the target is 20 or more, an error display is performed, and as in the first embodiment, another recording paper is supplied, image formation is continued, or an image is continued. The user may be allowed to select whether to stop the formation.

Note that the present invention can be applied to a system including a plurality of devices (for example, a host computer, an interface device, a reader, and a printer), and a device (for example, a copying machine and a facsimile device) including a single device. You may apply to.
[0103]
Also, an object of the present invention is to supply a storage medium (or recording medium) on which a program code of software that realizes the functions of the above-described embodiments is recorded to a system or apparatus, and the computer (or CPU or CPU) of the system or apparatus Needless to say, this can also be achieved by the MPU) reading and executing the program code stored in the storage medium. In this case, the program code itself read from the storage medium realizes the functions of the above-described embodiments, and the storage medium storing the program code constitutes the present invention. Further, by executing the program code read by the computer, not only the functions of the above-described embodiments are realized, but also an operating system (OS) running on the computer based on the instruction of the program code. It goes without saying that a case where the function of the above-described embodiment is realized by performing part or all of the actual processing and the processing is included.
[0104]
Furthermore, after the program code read from the storage medium is written into a memory provided in a function expansion card inserted into the computer or a function expansion unit connected to the computer, the function is based on the instruction of the program code. It goes without saying that the CPU or the like provided in the expansion card or the function expansion unit performs part or all of the actual processing and the functions of the above-described embodiments are realized by the processing.
[0105]
When the present invention is applied to the storage medium, the storage medium stores program codes corresponding to the flowcharts described above.
