この発明は、ネットワークに接続されて電子メールの送受信にかかわるメールサーバに関する。

【従来の技術】
特開平5−2541号公報には、電子メールを用いてプリンタを共用する技術が開示されている。かかる技術では、電子メールで印刷依頼を行ってプログラムを起動して印刷するものであり、他のネットワーク上のプリンタが利用可能になり、接続できる端末の数の制限を取り払うこともできる。

また、特開平5−308503号公報には、受信したファクシミリデータに付随している受信電話番号により宛先を判別し、宛先が電子メールであればメール作成部へ、宛先がプリンタならばプリンタ出力部へ、宛先がファクシミリならファクシミリ出力部へ、ファクシミリデータを渡して、所望のユーザまたは装置に出力する技術が開示されている。かかる技術では、コンピュータのないところでも、ネットワークに接続されたプリンタや内線ファクシミリを用いてファクシミリデータの受信が可能となる。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、前記特開平5−2541号公報に開示の技術では、プリンタを共有することができるにとどまり、文書配布のように特定の個人にネットワークを通じて文書を送付したいときに、その特定の個人の宛先を指定して送ることができないという不具合がある。

また、特開平5−308503号公報に開示の技術では、受信データの宛先はファクシミリデータに付随している受信電話番号からしか判別できず、通常の電子メールのメールアドレスから判別することはできないという不具合がある。

さらに、一般的に、ローカルエリアネットワーク(LAN)内のプリンティングシステムでは、ネットワーク上の資源の情報を何らかの手段で取得することが可能であるために装置を共用できるが、広域ネットワーク(WAN)では、装置名や装置のIPアドレスなどの装置の情報を取得することが困難であるという不具合がある。

この発明の目的は、ネットワーク上でメールアドレスにより特定の宛先のプリンタを指定して電子メールのプリントの要求をすることができるようにして、特定の宛先に文書を配布したい場合などに好適なメールサーバを提供することにある。

この発明の別の目的は、ネットワーク上の装置の情報が取得できなくても、メールアドレスを用いて特定の宛先のプリンタを指定して電子メールのプリントの要求をすることができるメールサーバを提供することにある。

この発明の別の目的は、宛先のユーザが使用しているプリンタが送信側において不明であっても、メールアドレスを用いて特定の宛先のプリンタを指定して電子メールのプリントの要求をすることができるメールサーバを提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
請求項1に記載の発明は、ネットワークに接続されたメールサーバであって、前記ネットワークから電子メールを受信するメール受信部と、このメール受信部により受信した電子メールのメールアドレスを構成しているデータを解析するメールアドレス解析部と、電子メールのプリントを要求する所定先を予め設定する要求先設定手段と、前記メールアドレス解析部による解析の結果、前記電子メールのメールアドレスに含まれていたプリントの要求が所定の第1のキーワードであるときは、前記要求先設定手段により予め設定されている所定先に電子メールのプリントの要求を行なって、前記電子メールのプリントを前記ネットワークに接続されている特定のプリンタに要求するプリント要求手段と、を備えたことを特徴とするものである。

【発明の実施の形態】
〔発明の第1の実施の形態〕
図1は、この発明の一実施の形態にかかるネットワークシステム1の概略のシステム構成を示すブロック図である。このネットワークシステム1は、電子メールを受信するユーザの端末装置2、電子メールの受信側のメールサーバ3、電子メールなどをプリントするプリンタ4、このプリンタ4の制御を行なうプリントサーバ5が、ネットワーク6に接続されている。このシステムでは、1または複数のユーザごとに端末装置2が割り当てられていて、プリンタ4も1または複数のユーザごとに割り当てられている。

図2は、メールサーバ3の機能ブロック図である。メール受信部11はネットワーク6から電子メール17を受信して、受信データをメールアドレス解析部12に送る。メールアドレス解析部12では電子メール17のメールアドレスを解析し、電子メール17のデータをメール配信部13に送り、電子メール17のデータとメールアドレスの解析結果をプリント処理部14(この発明のプリント要求手段を実現する)および出力通知作成部15(この発明の第1、第2の報知手段を実現する)に送る。メール配信部13は電子メール17を、そのメールアドレスの宛先であるユーザの端末装置2に配信する。プリント処理部14は、メールアドレスの解析結果に基づいて所定のプリンタ4に電子メール17のデータを送信し、この電子メール17のプリント処理を行ない、プリンタ4からプリント出力する。出力通知作成部15(この発明の報知手段を実現する)は、所定のプリンタ4から電子メール17をプリント出力した旨の通知を、メールアドレスの宛先であるユーザの端末装置2に送信する。

図3は、使用するプリンタ4の指定がないデフォルト(default)の場合に個々のユーザが使用するプリンタ4を特定する設定ファイル21(この発明のプリント要求先設定手段を実現する)のファイル構成を示す表で、メールサーバ3に記憶されている。この設定ファイル21は、個々のユーザのユーザ名(ユーザID)22(user_1、user_2、user_3、user_4、user_5、……)と、このユーザ名に対応しているプリンタ名23(printer_A、printer_B、printer_C、printer_A、printer_C、……)とが記憶されている(なお、この明細書および各図面で“_”はスペースであることを示している)。

“ユーザ名@ドメイン1.ドメイン2.ドメイン3.…….ドメインn”のように構成される。図5の(1)のメールアドレス24は、この例である。そこで、本システムでも、単に特定のユーザ(の端末装置2)に電子メール17を送信するだけであるときは、このような構成のメールアドレス24を用いて送信する。

これは、図3に示す設定ファイル21に記憶されているプリンタ名23と同一のもので、個々のプリンタ4の識別表示となるものである。プリンタ4が接続されているネットワークシステム1において固有のプリンタ名である。その例を図5の(2)に示す。

2.プリントの実行を示すキーワード
これはメールシステムで予め定められている例えば“PRINTER”のようなキーワード(この発明の第1のキーワードを実現する)である。その例を図5の(3)に示す。

以下では、メールサーバ3が電子メール17を受信したときに行う処理を図6のフローチャートを参照して説明する。

メール受信部11で電子メール17を受信すると(ステップS1)、メールアドレス解析部12でメールアドレス24を解析して、メールアドレス24のドメイン1の部分がプリントの実行を示すキーワード“PRINTER”であるか否かを判断する(ステップS2)。これが“PRINTER”でないときは(ステップS2のN)、ドメイン1がプリンタ名23であるか否かを判断し(ステップS8)、ドメイン1がプリンタ名23でもないときは(ステップS8のN)、メール配信部13がメールアドレス24の宛名のユーザの端末装置2に電子メール17を送信して(ステップS11)、処理を終了する。

〔発明の第2の実施の形態〕
この実施の形態は、前記の設定ファイル21、25の他に、メールサーバ3に図7に示す設定ファイル26(この発明の要求先設定手段を実現する)が記憶されていることと、これに伴って、メールサーバ3が電子メール17を受信したときに行う処理が図6を参照して説明した前記の処理と異なっている以外は、前記第1の実施の形態と同様であるため、以下の説明では同様の装置などには同一符号を付して説明し、詳細な説明は省略する。

図7は、メールサーバ3に記憶されている設定ファイル26のファイル構成を示す表である。同図に示すように、設定ファイル26は、業務名や役職名に対応したキーワード27(この発明の第2のキーワードを実現する。doc_adm、sys_adm、shomuなど)と、担当者名28(ユーザ1、ユーザ2、ユーザ3、ユーザ4など)と、ユーザ名22(user_1、user_2、user_3、user_4など)と、キーワード27(文書管理者、システム管理者、庶務担当者など)が示す業務名や役職名を記録する備考29とが対応づけられて記憶されたファイルである。

図8は、メールサーバ3が電子メール17を受信したときに行う処理を説明するフローチャートである。以下では、かかる処理の内容について説明する。なお、図8において、図6と同一符号のステップは前記第1の実施の形態の場合と同様であり、詳細な説明は省略する。この実施の形態では、前記ステップS1〜ステップS11の処理に、新たにステップS12〜ステップS14の処理がつけ加えられている。すなわち、メール受信部11が電子メール17を受信すると(ステップS1のY)、メールアドレス解析部12が電子メール17のメールアドレス24の内容を解析して、メールアドレス24の冒頭の宛先がユーザ名22かキーワード27かを判断する(ステップS12)。そして、宛先がdoc_adm、sys_adm、shomuなどのキーワード27であるときは(ステップS12のY)、メールサーバ3に図7に示す設定ファイル26が登録されているか否かを判断し(ステップS13)、この設定ファイル26が存在するときは(ステップS13のY)、メールアドレス24の冒頭のキーワード27が設定ファイル26に記憶されているか否かを判断する(ステップS14)。このキーワード27が存在するときは(ステップS14のY)、前記第1の実施の形態と同様に、ステップS6、ステップS7、ステップS9のいずれかにより特定されたプリンタ4に印刷要求を行なう。(ステップS2〜ステップS7)。一方、設定ファイル26が存在しないとき(ステップS13のN)、または、存在はするがメールアドレス24の冒頭のキーワード27が設定ファイル26に記憶されていないとき(ステップS14のN)は、設定ファイル25で設定したプリンタ名23のプリンタ4により電子メール17のプリントを行なう(ステップS7)。そして、いずれの場合も、前記第1の実施の形態と同様に、電子メール17のメールアドレス24の宛先であるユーザの端末装置2に電子メール17のプリントが行われた旨と、そのプリントを行ったのがいずれのプリンタ4であるかの表示を行わせて、それをユーザに通知し(ステップS10)、処理を終了する。
