【0001】

The present invention relates to a post-processing apparatus and an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile, and a multifunction peripheral thereof, and more particularly, to a post-processing apparatus and an image forming apparatus capable of cutting and outputting a recording sheet.
[0002]
[Prior art]
[Patent Document 1] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-2122632
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a color image forming apparatus such as a color copying machine or a color printer includes only one photoconductor drum, and yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), and black ( BK) and the like, and toner images of each color such as yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), black (BK), etc., sequentially formed on the photosensitive drum are formed as follows. There is a configuration in which a color image is formed by heating these toner images and fixing them on the recording sheet after multiple transfer onto the recording sheet.
[0003]
The above-described color image forming apparatus is configured to temporarily transfer toner images of each color such as yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), black (BK), etc., sequentially formed on a photosensitive drum to an intermediate transfer member. After the primary transfer on the intermediate transfer member, the toner images of each color multiplexed on the intermediate transfer body are secondarily transferred onto the recording sheet at a time, and these toner images are heated and placed on the recording sheet. In some cases, a color image is formed by fixing.
[0004]
Further, the color image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image forming units corresponding to respective colors such as yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), and black (BK). The toner images of each color such as yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), black (BK) and the like sequentially formed on the drum are transferred onto the recording sheet in a multiplex manner, or once on the intermediate transfer body. After multiple primary transfer, the toner images of each color multiplexed on the intermediate transfer body are collectively secondary-transferred onto the recording sheet, and then these toner images are heated and placed on the recording sheet. There is one configured to form a color image by fixing.
[0005]
By the way, color image forming apparatuses have been able to obtain high-quality images due to recent improvements in digitization and high definition. With the increase in image quality, attempts have been made to develop a color image forming apparatus using an electrophotographic method in the printing market and the photographic market. For example,
[0006]
In order to form a borderless print, there are a method of forming an image with no margin from the beginning to the end of the sheet, and a method of forming an image with a margin at the end of the sheet and then cutting the margin.
[0007]
Here, in the method of forming an image with no blank space from the beginning to the end of the sheet, after the toner image is transferred onto the sheet, unconveyed toner at the end of the sheet spills while being conveyed to the fixing device, and the sheet is conveyed to the sheet conveyance path Dirty. The spilled toner stains adhere to the next sheet and become stains. For this reason, it is more advantageous to cut the blank portion with a cutter after forming the image with the blank space in terms of preventing the printed image from being stained.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, if the toner portion of the paper is cut by the cutter after the toner is melted in the fixing unit, the sharpness is poor, and the toner resin accumulates in the teeth of the cutter over time, causing a problem that the cutting property is deteriorated. .
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of such technical problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a post-processing means capable of maintaining a cutting property even with use over time and obtaining a beautiful borderless image. And an image forming apparatus.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention is directed to a heating and fixing unit that is made of a thermo-softening resin and heat-fuses and fixes a toner held on a recording sheet; and a cutting unit that cuts a recording sheet that holds the toner fixed by the fixing unit. A post-fixing device for cooling the recording sheet after fixing and before cutting (forcibly). Further, the present invention also provides a heating and fixing unit which is made of a thermo-softening resin and is heated and melted to fix the toner held on the recording sheet; and a cutting unit for cutting the recording sheet holding the toner fixed by the fixing unit. And a post-processing device in which the toner is solidified when cut. Further, the present invention provides a heat fixing means for fixing the toner, which is made of a thermo-softening resin and held on the recording sheet, by heat melting, a cutting means for cutting the recording sheet holding the toner fixed by the fixing means. And a post-processing device in which the toner temperature and / or the recording sheet temperature at the time of cutting are within a predetermined temperature range.
[0011]
Here, the upper limit of the toner temperature at the time of cutting can be the softening temperature of the toner, and the lower limit of the toner temperature at the time of cutting can be the glass transition temperature of the toner. Further, the temperature of the toner at the time of cutting can be closer to the glass transition temperature than the softening temperature of the toner. The lower limit of the toner temperature at the time of cutting can be about −10 ° C. of the glass transition temperature of the toner.
[0012]
Further, the recording sheet includes a base material and a thermoplastic resin layer on a surface of the base material holding the toner, and the upper limit of the recording sheet temperature when the recording sheet is cut is a softening temperature of the thermoplastic resin layer. The lower limit of the recording sheet temperature at the time of cutting may be the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic resin layer. Further, the recording sheet temperature at the time of cutting can be closer to the glass transition temperature than the softening temperature of the thermoplastic resin layer. The lower limit of the recording sheet temperature at the time of cutting can be about −10 ° C., the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic resin layer.
[0013]
The recording sheet includes a base material and a thermoplastic resin layer on a surface of the base material holding the toner, and the base material is a paper base body and both sides (or one side) of the base body. And a resin coat layer made of resin that covers the substrate. The thermoplastic resin layer may have higher heat resistance than the resin coat layer.
[0014]
By the way, the heating and fixing means includes a plurality of support rolls including a heating roll and a peeling roll, a fixing belt stretched and rotated by the plurality of support rolls, and a pressure contact between the heating roll and the fixing belt via the fixing belt. A pressure roll for forming a nip portion, and a recording sheet for holding the toner, wherein the toner surface is brought into close contact with the fixing belt at the nip portion, conveyed with the rotation of the fixing belt, and formed by the peeling roll. It may be peeled off from the fixing belt at the (curvature change portion). A cooling unit for (forcibly) cooling the recording sheet and the toner after the fixing and before the cutting is provided, and the cooling unit includes a heat sink in contact with the inside of the fixing belt from the nip to the peeling unit. It may be something.
[0015]
Further, the heat fixing means includes a heating roll and a pressure roll forming a nip portion by being in pressure contact with the heating roll, and the recording sheet holding the toner is heat-fixed when passing through the nip portion. Good. A cooling unit for (forcibly) cooling the recording sheet and the toner after the fixing and before the cutting, and the cooling unit is configured to perform the non-image forming of the recording sheet in the conveyance path from the nip portion to the cutting unit. Surface). Further, a device for blowing air to these heat sinks may be provided.
[0016]
Further, the present invention can be understood as an image forming apparatus including (removable or having in advance) the post-processing apparatus. The image forming apparatus includes a post-processing device, a pre-processing device that holds toner on a recording sheet, and a control unit that operates one or both of the pre-processing device and the post-processing device. There may be.
[0017]
Here, when the primary fixing unit is provided in the pre-processing device, the thermal fixing unit of the post-processing device is the secondary fixing unit, and the post-processing device is configured to be detachable from the pre-processing device, the conventional fixing device is used. By simply adding a new post-processing device to the pre-processing device (for low-gloss or non-glossy general text), high-gloss borderless images can be obtained, and image formation for high-gloss borderless images Equipment development and production costs can be reduced.
[0018]
In this case, the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the second fixing unit (heat fixing unit) can be smaller than the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the first fixing unit. More preferably, the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the second fixing unit can be set to half or less the size of the recording sheet that can be fixed by the first fixing unit. For example, the maximum size of a recording sheet that can be fixed by the second fixing unit can be a postcard size or an L size of a photograph, and the maximum size of a recording sheet that can be fixed by the first fixing unit can be an A3 size. By configuring the image forming apparatus in this way, the size of the secondary fixing device can be reduced, and the space saving and operability improvement of the image forming apparatus that outputs an image without a high gloss border can be achieved. The small second fixing means (heat fixing means) also contributes to power saving. By controlling the heating sources of the first fixing unit and the second fixing unit so that they are not turned on at the same time, further power saving can be achieved.
[0019]
The thermoplastic resin layer is preferably made of the same quality as the toner resin (binder resin) constituting the toner, and is preferably selected so that the melting temperatures of both resins are substantially the same.

On the other hand, the glass transition temperature Tg (T) is a temperature at which the elasticity term G ′ of the thermoplastic resin becomes smaller than the viscosity term G ″ (dotted line graph in the figure). The glass transition temperature Tg (T) of the polyester in the examples is 56 ° C. These values are determined by the condition that the temperature is gradually increased from room temperature at a frequency of 1 rad / s, and the rheometer “RES” manufactured by Theometric Corporation is used. Experimental Example The present inventor cuts a recording sheet (dedicated glossy paper) with a cutting device while changing the temperature of the recording sheet (special glossy paper) in order to investigate the relationship between the temperature of the recording sheet (and toner) and the cutting property at the time of cutting. And summarized the results.
[0072]
[Table 2]
Table 2 shows the data of the temperature of the recording sheet (special glossy paper) and the cutting performance of the cutting device, which are the experimental results. For example, when the toner softening temperature is Tm (T) (112 ° C.) or higher, cutting cannot be performed even at the initial stage. Further, if the temperature is lower than the toner softening temperature Tm (T), but is relatively high, an attempt to cut soft toner requires a considerably large torque of the cutter. It was found that even if cutting was performed with a large torque, burrs were generated on the cut surface, melted toner adhered to the blade of the cutter, and the sharpness deteriorated with time.
[0073]
On the other hand, if the toner image is excessively cooled and then cooled to a glass transition temperature Tg (T) (56 ° C.) of -10 ° C. or lower, slight cracking is likely to occur around the cut portion of the toner image. It was found that a glass transition temperature of −10 ° C. or more was desirable.
[0074]
【The invention's effect】
As described above in detail, according to the present invention, it is possible to provide a post-processing unit and an image forming apparatus capable of maintaining a cutting property even with use over time and obtaining a beautiful borderless image. it can.
