Abstract

992083 Indicating-apparatus FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 17 Jan 1964 [5 Feb 1963] 4579/63 Heading G1J [Also in Division H1] A motor vehicle instrument assembly comprises a box with a plurality of electrical components mounted on an inner wall thereof and electrically connected to contact pins 11 located on an outside wall of the box and a lid 3 closing the box and forming part of the facia panel of the vehicle when the box is secured thereto. The box may be made of a sheet steel pressing, or moulding and the lid 3 of transparent plastic, vacuum plated to suit the styling of the panel, some parts being left clear for such instruments as the clock, speedometer and gauges and other parts having appropriate lettering printed thereon. The instruments, together with switches, lamps, fuses and controls for lamps, wiper, washer and ignition are mounted in the box away from the vehicle assembly line and the connections to the pins 11 are made through a printed circuit 9, so that, on the assembly line the only operations necessary are to fit the pins 11 into sockets on the vehicle and to secure the box to the vehicle body. A felt seal 7 excludes dust.
