Abstract

1,236,261. Instrument mounting. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 9258/68. Heading B7H. [Also in Division H1] A mounting for electrical components particularly a dashboard arrangement for mounting the instruments of a motor vehicle comprises a box-like structure having a rear wall 10 suitably moulded such that different portions of the rear wall are at varying depths or in different vertical planes corresponding with the depth and size of the various instruments and having a flexible printed circuit overlying the internal surface of the rear wall having exposed portions, for example, 28, 29, which are engaged by contacts 32, 35, associated with the electrical instruments. The terminal ends 50 of the printed circuits may be grouped together and pass through the rear wall to be engaged by contacts of a distributer panel connecting the leads from the various accessories transmitting the relevant details by electrical signals to the instruments. This arrangement may be similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,168,621. The components may either be in the form of indicators such as a fuel gauge or in the form of an indicator lamp. Alternatively, the invention can be applied to a vehicle tachograph recording instrument in which a circular body structure 140 is provided and the vertical side wall 191 and back wall 190 are lined with a flexible printed circuit. The side wall 191 is apertured and the ends of the printed circuits are exposed adjacent the openings to be engaged by the contacts of light bulb holders which are positioned and held within the openings, as shown in Fig. 11.
