Abstract

940,070. Automatic exchange systems. TELECTRONIC S.A. Oct. 19, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 35852/60. Drawings to Specification. Heading H4K. An alarm installation connected to a telephone system is adapted when operated to feed into the telephone system at least one alarm signal selected from two or more alarm signals permanently on record in the installation and intended to be directed to different receiving stations; the installation includes at least one detector circuit, an endless magnetic tape carrying the recorded alarm signals, a device for reading-out the recorded signals, a selection device supplying the read-out signals selectively to the telephone system, a control device for stopping transmission of the alarm signals, and self-contained power supplies for the installation, the control device comprising a local control and a device able to receive a signal transmitted over the telephone system to operate the control device remotely, and the selection device being controlled by additional signals recorded on the tape and associated with each alarm signal. As described, an endless loop of tape carries a series of messages, each comprising dial impulses, the information to be sent, and a sign-off signal. The sign-off signal is of such a length as to cause release of a slow-release relay by blocking a transistor (dial impulses being produced similarly) and hence release of the telephone line. The next message is therefore not transmitted, but its sign-off signal causes a further switching operation which re-connects the line. Thus, alternate messages are sent. If the tape loop contains an odd number of messages, all are sent, whereas only half are sent if the loop holds an even number. During any one of the gaps in transmission the called station may dial the alarm station, the resulting ringing current bringing about a switching operation to stop the alarm apparatus which goes home (a closedown signal, even longer than the sign-off signal, initiating release). There may be two (or more) alarm detectors, e.g. one for fire and one for burglary, one despatching the odd-numbered messages and the other the even-numbered.
