Abstract
926,789. Joint-making packing. CADILLAC GAGE CO. March 8, 1962, No. 8902/62. Class 122 (3). A gasket for use between plane faces of members 16, 17 to be sealed comprises a solid ring portion 15 with end faces normal to the axis of the ring and having on its inner or outer periphery or on both a pair of integral diverging annular lip portions 11a, 11b which, in their free state, project axially beyond the end faces of the portion 15 and terminate in sealing surfaces 14a, 14b. In use, Fig. 4, the lip portions are resiliently deflected as the members 16 and 17 are drawn together until the latter engage the end faces of the portion 15. The material of the gasket may be metal, e.g. cast iron or a plastic.
