Abstract

814,265. Joint-making packing. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL G.m.b.H. Nov. 1, 1956 [April 5, 1956], No. 33335/56. Class 122 (3). A seal between plane surfaces 6, 7 of two rigid members, for example a cover 8 and an end disc 9 of a filter cartridge 10, comprises a sealing ring of soft flexible material, preferably soft rubber, having a solid annular central portion 3 with end faces 2 normal to the ring axis and two integral outwardly directed annular ribs 4 which, in their free state, project axially beyond the end faces 2 and, as the members 8 and 9 are drawn together during assembly, are resiliently deflected by the surfaces 6, 7 until those surfaces engage the end faces 2 of the central portion 3. Recesses 5 are provided at the junctures of the ribs and the central portion.
