Abstract

A composition comprises, by weight, 100 parts of a diorganosiloxane (R/Si=1,98 to 2,01) having a molecular weight not less than 3X105, 4 to 20 parts of a linear organopolysiloxane having from 1,02 to 1,50 organic radicals per Si atom and a molecular weight less than 104, 0 to 70 parts of a reinforcing filler, 0 to 100 parts of a semi- or non-reinforcing filler, the total amount of filler ranging from 30 to 130 parts, 0,5 to 10 parts of a curing agent and 2 to 8 parts of a structure control additive. The siloxanes may contain alkyl, alkenyl or aryl radicals. Other ingredients specified are:-fillers-silicas (fume, precipitated and aerogels), diatomaceous earth, clays, titania, calcium carbonate and zirconium silicate; curing agents-benzoyl-, 2:4-dichlorobenzoyl-, di-t-butyl- and dicumyl-peroxides and t-butylperacetate; structure control additives-diphenylsilane diol, diphenyldimethoxysilane, diphenyldiethoxysilane and those disclosed in Specifications 792,580 and 800,554. In a typical example (1) a mixture of a methylvinylsiloxane, a methylhydrogensiloxane, fume silica, red iron oxide, (tetramethylethylenedioxy) dimethylsilane and 2:4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide (in a liquid siloxane), was compounded on a roll mill, sheeted and cured at 100 DEG C. for 10 minutes to yield an elastomer which showed good adhesion to itself although comparatively tack-free. Uses: For making tapes and for coating metal and glass cloth (see Group VIII).
