Abstract
A copolymerizable organosilicon composition comprises (1) from 5 to 75 per cent by weight of the trisiloxane of the formula <FORM:0797979/IV (a)/1> or of the formula <FORM:0797979/IV (a)/2> or of the formula <FORM:0797979/IV (a)/3> or mixtures thereof, and (2) from 25 to 95 per cent of a polysiloxane in which the units are monovinyl, phenylvinyl, monophenyl, phenylmethyl, monomethyl or diphenyl siloxane units, which polysiloxane may contain up to 20 mol. per cent of units of the formula R3SiO, where R is methyl, phenyl or vinyl, at least 10 mol. per cent of the polysiloxane being vinyl siloxane units and the phenyl : silicon ratio being from 0.25 : 1 to 1.1 : 1, and (3) an organic peroxide or per-ester curing agent. The compositions may be cast by the usual methods and may also be used to impregnate coils, transformers, &c. Fillers such as metal oxides, silica, carbon black, glass fabric, glass beads, asbestos and clays may be added to the compositions. In the examples: (1) a copolymer of 29.4 mol. per cent of PhViSiO, 62 mol. per cent of PhMeSiO and 8.6 mol. per cent of PhMeViSiO0.5, having a viscosity of 7400 c.s. at 25 DEG C., is mixed with 30 per cent by weight of Me2ViSiOSi(Ph2)O SiMe2Vi to give a mixture of viscosity 800 c.s., and 1 per cent of di-tert. butyl peroxide is added. The mixture is cured by heating at 150 DEG C.; (2) a copolymer of 60 mol. per cent of PhMeSiO and 40 per cent PhViSiO having a viscosity of 2,500 c.s. is mixed with 25 per cent by weight of Me2ViSiOSi(Ph)(Me)OSiMe2Vi and 1 per cent of di-tert. butyl peroxide, and is cured at 150 DEG C.; (3) 75 parts of the copolymer of Example 2 is mixed with 25 parts of Me2Vi SiOSi(Ph)(Vi)OSiMe2Vi and cured as before. The trisiloxanes may be prepared by cohydrolysing Me2ViSiCl with Ph2SiCl2 or PhMe SiCl2 or PhViSiCl2. Specification 755,198 is referred to.
