Abstract

863,954. Merry-go-rounds. KLAUS, K. July 9, 1959 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 23638/59. Class 132(1). A merry-go-round has a ring mount 5, movable vertically and tiltable with respect to a tower 1, and supporting: seat carriers for rotation about the tower. As shown, tower 1 contains a cylinder with a piston operable by compressed air or the like whose rod 26 supports a cross-member 28. Tension rods 27 suspended from member 28 carry an auxiliary cage 2 having rollers 2<SP>1</SP> which engage the outer surface of tower 1. Diametrically opposite pins 3 on cage 2 support a frame 4 tiltable by a piston and cylinder 7 mounted between pivots 4<SP>1</SP> and 7<SP>1</SP>. Supported on frame 4 there is a ring mount 5 carrying a cage 6 with a conical inner surface 35. A gear ring 9 secured to cage 6 meshes with a gear-wheel 81 rotated by a motor 8 mounted' on frame 4. Cars or seat carriers 33 are carried on the outer ends of arms 32 pivoted on tangential pivots 6<SP>11</SP> on cage 6 each arm being individually controlled from its corresponding car by means of a cylinder 31 extending between pivots 6' and 32'. In operation, the cylinder in the tower displaces cages 2 and 6 along the tower and frame 4 can be tilted by cylinder 7. Further, tower 1 can be rotated on its rollers 10 on substructure 43. In a modification, Fig. 7, the auxiliary cage 20 bears on the outer surface of the tower by means of rollers 20<SP>1</SP> and journals 22 carry a frame 23 which supports cage 6 and its attachments. A downward projection 42 from frame 23 has an inwardly directed arm 41 below journals 22 and carrying pins 24<SP>1</SP> with rollers 24. These rollers 24 engage in guide rails 21 whose upper ends are curved so that, as cage 20 moves up the tower, rollers 24 slide in guide rails 21 and, as the cage approaches the top of the curve in the rail tilts frame 23 about journal 22. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the arm carrying cage 15 bears via a ring mount and rollers or balls 39 on an auxiliary cage 11 and projecting flange 11'. Two or four working cylinders pivoted at 25<SP>1</SP> on the lower portion 1<SP>1</SP> of the tower have piston rods 26<SP>1</SP> which engage the cage at pivots 28'. Curved guide rails 13 are mounted on opposite sides of tower 1 and receive rollers 12 and 18 to tilt the cage as it is raised by actuation of cyinders 25.
