Abstract
846,010. Batteries. ELECTRIC STORAGE BATTERY CO. Feb. 18, 1957 [March 27, 1956], No. 5382/57. Class 53. In a sealed alkaline accumulator having electrodes separated by a diaphragm impermeable to gases, the electrodes are provided with passages to enable gases evolved from the electrodes to escape and come into contact with the active material of the opposite electrodes. The electrodes may consist of sintered nickel, the positive being impregnated with oxide of nickel and the negative with metallic cadmium. Fig. 5 shows an electrode in which the faces are provided with grooves 23 which allow the evolved gas to pass upwardly between the electrode and separating diaphragm into the space above the electrodes from where it can pass down similar grooves in the opposite electrode. The grooves may run vertically or horizontally over the surfaces of the electrodes or obliquely as shown in Fig. 5. Specification 845,996 is referred to.
