Abstract

783,618. Reciprocating electric motors. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Oct. 7, 1955 [Oct. 7, 1954], No. 28893/54. Class 35. An electromagnet vibrator giving torsional and/or linear motion, comprises a coreless moving coil encircling a ring or bar of magnetizable material in a magnetic field, the coil being fed with A.C. In one form Fig. 2, producing only rotational vibration, the coil e embraces a fixed magnetizable disc or bar b separated by a small air space from the poles of a horse-shoe permanent or electromagnet a, the torque appearing at shaft m. In a modification, providing either sort of vibration, Fig. 10, the coil e is embraced by a pair of E-shaped magnets s, t, while the coil is supported for linear motion by springs r and for angular motion by shaft m. The polarity of the magnets is changed to alter the mode of vibration. A modification is described in which the coil is divided into two parts, one for each magnet, the connection to one part being reversible to change the mode of vibration. Specification 641,370 is referred to.
