Abstract
769,095. Electrodeposition of titanium. SHAWINIGAN WATER & POWER CO. Feb. 18, 1954 [Sept. 22, 1953], No. 4742/54. Class 41. To relieve or prevent polarization during electrodeposition of titanium by electrolysis of titanium tetrachloride in a fused salt bath consisting of one or more of the chlorides of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals (including magnesium), there is maintained in the bath sufficient fluoride salt to give a combined fluorine content of 0.02 to 0.1 per cent by weight. The fluoride may be an alkali metal fluoride, calcium fluoride, potassium fluotitanate or cryolite and may be added to the bath either initially or on the occurrence of polarization.
