Abstract
644,736. Light-sensitive control apparatus. SHAND, G., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 5, 1948, No. 20699. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] Cathode-ray tube apparatus for displaying radar signals comprises a main cathode-ray tube CRT1 on which the signals from receiver R are impressed by intensity modulation to give a plan-position indication. Also provided is a second tube CRT2 scanned in synchronism with the first by connection to common scan generator SG but having a constant intensity light spot. Light from this second tube is directed by lens system L on to light-sensitive cell PC whose amplified output is fed to video amplifier VID (or to control the intensity of the spot on CRT1 by other means) so that masking placed over the screen of the second tube reduces or eliminates the display over corresponding areas of the screen of the main tube. The mask may vary from opaque to semitransparent to produce complete or partial elimination of the display over different areas as required. A plan printed in thin lines may be mounted over the main tube CRT1 and coded response signals, or similar special signals, superimposed on the plan position display in such a way as to be independent of the intensity control from the cell PC.
