Abstract
606,527. Catamenial tampons. MORIAME. F., and THIRION, W. Oct. 10, 1945, No. 26504. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1942. [Class 81(ii)] A catamenial tampon or pad a for internal use, a portion c of which fits loosely into the front portion of a detachable tubular handle d of substantially uniform crosssection, is of uniform cross-section for the greater portion of its length and is provided towards its rear end with a shoulder freely resting on the front edge of the handle and is retained against this edge by a string or cord e passing through the handle and fixed under tension to the rear end of the handle in an easily detachable manner, e.g. in a notch f. The shoulder may cover the edge of the handle and have substantially the same external diameter. The handle may be of cardboard or stiff paper and the pad of absorbent material, e.g. wadding compressed to shape. The pad may be formed from a strip of absorbent material the fibres of which are substantially longitudinal, the strip being folded in two across its length and the ends sewn together by transverse stitching which may be a continuation of the cord. Alternatively the cord may be attached to a net enclosing the pad, which may be protected from soiling by a removable cap.
