Abstract
553,026. Lathe turrets. LEWIN, F., and BRYAN, C. Y. Oct. 31, 1941, No. 14004. [Class 83 (iii)] In a lathe turret wherein the clamping mechanism and indexing mechanism of pawl-and-ratchet type are both actuated by a common control handle, the pawl is lifted clear of the ratchet during the clamping movement by an adjustable masking device. The turret slide 10, movable by the usual capstan wheel, carries a turret-post 11, the turret 12 carrying a notched locking ring 13 coacting with a locking bolt, (not shown). The turret is clamped on to a face 10a by a ring 15 actuated by a lever 16 adjustably secured to a nut 14 screwing over the post 11. The turret carries a fixed ring 18 having locating recesses 19 engaged by a spring- urged pawl 20 pivoted in the nut 14, the pawl being adjustably masked by a shroud 23 on a member 24 secured to the post 11. When the handle 16 is moved anti-clockwise the turret is first unclamped ; the pawl then moves off the shroud into engagement with a recess 19 so that further movement of the handle indexes the turret which is clamped by reverse movement of the lever.
