549,150. Catamenial appliances. CHURCHER, N. E. May 5, 1941. No. 5824. Convention date, Nov. 6,1940. [Class 81 (ii)] A catamenial appliance, consisting oi a vessel of rubber or similar resilient and flexible material shaped for insertion in the vagina and with a mouth which fits over and surrounds the cervix and having a tubular extension outlet provided with a removable closure, has a helical spring 12 encircling the mouth 10 of the vessel and embedded in the material thereof with a two-part ring 13 arranged within the coils of the spring, gaps between the ends of the ring forming hinging points and allowing the mouth to be folded to facilitate easy insertion and removal of the appliance. The vessel tapers from the mouth 10 and is connected to the outlet 17 by a stepped or other suitable portion 16. The spring may be constructed in two half-parts the ends of which are joined by a tapered or reduced portion of one part screwing into the coils of the adjacent parts; the joints form spacing means for the parts of the ring 13.
