[Class 122 (i)] A cylinder and piston assembly for internal combustion engines comprises. in combination a cylinder, the actual bore of which is constituted aluminium or aluminium 'alloy, and a piston of light construction formed integrally with a steel part in bearing contact with the cylinder bore. The piston may consist of a light alloy encircled by one or more immovable sheaths of steel wire ; it may be made wholly or mainly of thin steel and formed with an internal chamber containing a cooling medium such as a sodium salt; or it may be made of steel the heat-conductivity of which is increased by the addition of from 1.5 to 2 per cent. of copper. Specification 496,317 is referred to.
