Abstract
517,015. Power hammers. PEACE & SONS, Ltd., J., and PEACE, W. H. Feb. 22, 1939, No. 5603. [Class 83 (iv)] In apparatus comprising a plurality of spring' pressed hammers c slidably mounted in housings b arranged radially about the axis of a cam e adapted on rotation to move the hammers outward to compress the springs n and then release them to strike the blows, the hammers are fitted with removable dies p with detachable shanks s passing axially through the hammers .and non- rotatably anchored at their outer ends in recesses .accommodating the ends of the springs n. The shanks are screwed into the dies and have heads' t encircled by washers u engaging stops v and provided with tapped holes x to facilitate removal. The pressure of the springs may be adjusted by screws r. The housing b are provided on a plate a secured by screws i to a plate h on a framing f carrying a bearing for the cam shaft. A retaining plate a is arranged between the plates a, h. Lugs j, Fig. 1, on the hammers engage guides in the plates and carry adjustable screws q which contact with the cam. With four hammers opposed pairs operate alternately and with three, hammers operation of all is simultaneous.
