Abstract
495,955. Locks. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Etablissements P. Mabille) March 22, 1937, No. 8318. [Class 44] A letter lock, mounted on one frame part of a handbag, has a sliding rod which engages or controls a member engaging a catch mounted on the other frame part, the fastening extending longitudinally of and over substantially the whole length of the bag opening. The catch 16, Fig. 3, is engaged by slide 15 controlled by a flange 6 on the lock, the flange being rotatable into a recess 17 and held by a catch 18 when out of use. In a modification, Fig. 8, the lock 25 on branch 21 controls a rod 27 entering a recess in branch 22 of the frame. The rod 27 has a projection 31 engaging a groove 32 to permit complete release and to guide the projections 29 into the tumbler notches. To permit closing the bag without using the lock, branch 22 may carry a hollow shaft 33 engaging a flange 26 on branch 21. The part of branch 22 extending under the loek may be notched to pass the tumbler flanges.
