Abstract
437,990. Heating water. HOUNSFIELD, L. H., 81, Morland Road, Croydon. Sept. 11, 1934, No. 26056. [Class 64 (i)] Water is delivered into a hot water storage and heating tank 1 at a slow rate, e.g. one pint per minute, through small hole 21 at a point remote from the heater, e.g. near the supply cistern 26 so as to prevent furring, and the water enters the tank by a tube 12 surrounding a thermostat 9 controlling the gas or electric heating so that water is heated as it enters. Water is withdrawn at a normal rate by a tap 14, which may be mounted with the thermostat 9 and gas and water supply pipes 10, 13 on a detachable plate 25 covering a hand-hole near the bottom of the boiler. A coil of wire 29 is soldered to the bottom of the tank to increase the heating surface. The tap is placed above the thermostat so that the latter is always submerged, and the burner 11 is placed well below the bottom of the tank within a lower extension of the tank casing. The water supply may be controlled by a ball cock, and an air vent tube 23 leads from the tank to above the supply cistern 26. A filter 20 is provided adjacent the small hole 21.
