Abstract
Portland cement, defined as a composition of matter having hydraulic setting properties and consisting essentially of lime, silica and alumina in chemical combination, is included in a plaster mix comprising finely divided mineral anhydrite with small amounts of gas-producing ingredients and accelerators. Preferably the quantity of Portland cement used is less than 5 per cent by weight of the dry mixture. In calculating the amount of gas-producing agent required, allowance is made for the degree of expansion desired and for the nature of the other ingredients. A suitable mixture has 650 parts by weight of anhydrite, 28 of aluminium sulphate, 9 of Portland cement, 6 of potassium sulphate, and 3 of chalk, and may be gauged with 235-250 parts by weight of water. The accelerator may be zinc sulphate, and fillers, such as sand, pumice, cork, clinker, brick dust or fibrous materials, and pigments may be incorporated.
