Abstract

A cementitious composition is produced by the admixture of finely ground pumice and quicklime. The type of pumice used is preferably trachytic pumice. 1-5 per cent of natural rock asphalt is also preferably added to prevent the formation of blow holes when the composition is used as a plaster. When the material is to be used as a plaster for inside work calcined gypsum or anhydrite is added, and when it is to be used as a plaster for outside work, ordinary cement is added. When slabs, blocks or boards are to be made, a fibrous binder such as asbestos is added in amounts of about 10 per cent. In an example 60 per cent of pumice is mixed with 40 per cent of lime.
