278,142. Hadden, W. J., and Donaldson Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Aug. 16, 1926. Golf clubs.-A golf club is built up of readilyassembled parts comprising a hollow steel shaft, a tubular grip adapted to be clamped in position, on one end of the shaft, and a club head with a socket provided with circumferentially contractible means for clamping the socket on the shaft. As shown applied to a golf club with an iron head 1, a hollow steel shaft 2 is filled at the end by a plug 10 secured by rivets 11 and provided with a projecting screwed portion 12. The socket 4 is slotted longitudinally so that after screwing in the shaft, the socket may be clamped thereon by a screwed ferrule 13. A similar attachment may be applied to wooden heads. A tubular grip 20 covered by leather 21 is applied to the upper end of the shaft. As described in Specification 277,473, the lower end of the tubular grip is split longitudinally and may be clamped to the shaft by a screwed ferrule 23. The upper end of the grip carried a milled head 26 from which a screw 27 projects and passes through a screwed filling plug 24 secured within the upper end of the shaft. By rotating the milled head the position of the grip upon the shaft may be adjusted, and after tightening up the ferrule 23 further rotation of the milled head tightens the screw and prevents further longitudinal movement. Rotation of the grip upon the shaft is prevented by longitudinal grooves in the grip and shaft. By standardizing the parts clubs may readily be built up to suit the individual player.
