Abstract

A cover/box made from flammable material for a firelighter which removes the need for kindling. The box is preferably formed from papier-m†ch’ or woodchip and may be approximately 150mm long, 100mm wide and 50mm high. The box has an open base to allow it to be placed over the firelighter, and to form an upward airflow to aid burning. Fuel is place over the box. The box can be used in all solid fuel applications e.g. domestic fires and barbecues.

DESCRIPTION

Application number: GB 0602936.7 Title: Kindlebox Kindlebox is an idea for a new product that will greatly improve the speed, ease and success of domestic coal fire making. When a Kindlebox is used in conjunction with a firelighter, fire building becomes a simple task as opposed to an irksome chore.

The idea for Kindlebox is very much in the conceptual stage, although some rudimentary designs have been tried with good results, the final size, shape and composition will depend on further trials. In simple terms a Kindlebox can be described as a papier-mâché/woodchip box approximately 150mm long 100mm wide and 50mm high, the sides, corners and top rounded and the base open so that it may be placed over the firelighter.

The traditional method for domestic coal fire making involves scrunching several sheets of newspaper and the use of kindling wood. Kindling wood is awkward to prepare and expensive to buy.

The introduction of the firelighter made it possible to light a domestic coal fire with out the use of paper and kindling wood.

When lighting a domestic coal fire with a single firelighter, it is necessary to carefully place 10 to 20 small pieces of dry coal over and around the firelighter creating a pre-fire. When the pre-fire is well alight, larger nubs of coal are added to make the required fire. In practice it is often necessary to add kindling wood or use extra firelighters to ensure success.

Kindlebox is a low tech, inexpensive solution to the problems associated with making domestic coal fires. Using a Kindlebox removes the need for kindling wood. It works by providing a flammable shelter for the firelighter allowing the full amount of coal to be poured onto the grate at the initial fire making stage. The Kindlebox ensconces the firelighter, forcing air to be drawn from below. As the Kindlebox is consumed the coal remains in situ, the upward airflow concentrates the flame maximising the effect of the firelighter.

Using a Kindlebox a domestic coal fire can be made in just three simple steps: 5SS s. 1, Put a single firelighter in centre of grate and light.

2, Place a Kindlebox over the firelighter.

: *: :* 3, Pour required amount of coal onto grate covering the Kindlebox.

Using a Kindlebox to make a domestic coal fire has many advantages: * No need to use kindling wood or extra firelighters.

: * Unnecessary to make pre-fire wait and then top up.

* The full requirement of coal can be easily poured on straight away.

*.: * Can be used for all types of solid fuel appliance including barbecues.

* Can be manufactured from recycled materials.

* Stacks to save space.
