Abstract

An apparatus for registration and altering an abbreviated dial number in a central office memory from a telephone set (1) in the place where one is on a trip, is provided in an office (2), in which an incoming telephone set (3) responsive to an outside telephone call and a push-phone telephone set (4) having an abbreviated dial function are also provided. When the incoming telephone set is called from an outside telephone set, the apparatus (6) couples the central office (5) to the outside telephone set, so that the caller can hear a dialling ready signal tone coupled from the central office. The caller can now send out an MF signal, which is coupled through the apparatus to the central office memory for registration or alteration of an abbreviated dial number. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Apparatus for registering and altering abbreviated telephone dial numbers This invention relates to an apparatus which permits registration and alteration of an abbreviated dial number of an MF system telephone circuit (a multiplexed frequency signal generated when a push-phone is operated, also referred to as a P.B. tone) in the central office memory by operating a non-particular telephone set in the place where one is on a trip.
With a prior art MF system telephone circuit, an abbreviated dial number consisting of, for instance, three digits such as "you", which stands for, for instance, a 9-digit telephone number such as "03-667-7441", can be registered with a push-phone telephone set a, e.g. by operating push button keys of the set.
That is, the number "03-667-7441" can be registered in the abbreviated form "*00" in a memory in the central office, to which the telephone set a is connected.
However, the registration of the abbreviated dial number can be done only by operating the pertinent push-phone telephone set, that is, it has been impossible to register the abbreviated dial number in the memory of the central office, to which the telephone set a is connected, by operating a telephone set b other than the telephone set a. Further, alteration of the abbreviated dial number, for instance from a number "*00" to a number "*01" can be done only by operating the pertinent push-phone telephone set a.
In other words, it has been possible neither to register nor to alter an abbreviated dial number in the memory, to which the pertinent telephone number a is connected, from a telephone set in the place where one is on a trip.
An object of the present invention is to permit registeration or alteration of an abbreviated dial number of a push-phone telephone as noted above from a telephone set in the place where one is on a trip.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing an apparatus for registering or altering an abbreviated dial number according to the invention; and, Fig. 2 is a schematic showing part of the apparatus in detail, Designated at 1 is, for instance, a public telephone set in the place where one is on a trip (journey). Designated at 2 is his or her office, which is provided with at least two telephone sets 3 and 4. Abbreviated dial function need not be provided on both of the telephone sets3 and 4.
However, at least one of the telephone sets, for instance the telephone set 4, needs be a pushphone telephone set provided with the abbreviated dial function. Designated at 5 is a central office provided with a memory. Designated at 6 is the device according to the invention. The incoming telephone set 3 and telephone set 4 can be connected to each other by a coupling section 7. The coupling section 7 has an on-off switch.
The device 6 includes a call detecting section 8.
When the incoming telephone set 3 is called from the telephone set 1, the call detecting section 8 detects the call even if the handset of the incoming telephone set 3 is not unhooked. When the call detecting section 8 detects a call, it renders the coupling section 7 operative. The call detecting section 8 is thus coupled to the coupling section 7.
A holding section 9 is connected to both the call detecting section 8 and incoming telephone set 3, and can be operated by the call detecting section 8. When the holding section 9 is rendered operative, it holds the handset of the incoming telephone set 3 in the unhooked state even through the handset may not be actually unhooked.
Fig. 2 shows the details of the circuitry involved. Terminals 11 are connected to the incoming telephone set 3. A relay 13 has relay switches 12, which are operated when a bell of the incoming telephone set 3 is driven. Designated at 14 is a reset circuit, at 15 a neon photo-coupler for detecting ringing, at 16 a latch circuit for holding the relay 13 operative, at 1 7 a relay circuit for a relay coupling the incoming telephone set 3 and telephone set 4, at 1 8 a latch circuit for holding the telephone set 4, and at 19 a relay for coupling the incoming telephone set 3 and telephone set 4. The coupling relay 1 9 has switches 20. Designated at 21 is a relay for holding the telephone set 4. The holding relay 21 has switches 22.A bilateral amplifier 23 receives a signal transmitted from the central office through the circuit of the telephone set 4 and transmits a dial number signal from the incoming telephone set 3. Terminals 24 are connected to the telephone set 4.
Designated at 25 is a portable P.B. tone generator.
The operation will now be described.
As is well known in the art, a telephone dial number "33-667-7441", for instance, may be registered in an abbreviated form, for instance "+01" or "*02" in the memory of the central office 5 from the office 2 by operating the push-phone telephone set 4. Once this is done, the telephone with the afore-mentioned dial number "03-6677441" may be called by merely specifying the abbreviated dial number "*01" or "*02".
According to the invention, an abbreviated dial number can be registered or altered in the memory of the central office, to which the telephone set having the abbreviated dial function as described above is connected, by using the public telephone set in the place where one is on a trip.
When the incoming telephone set 3 in the office 2, which is provided with the telephone set 4 having the abbreviated dial function, is called from the public telephone set 1, the ringing signal of the telephone set 3 is detected by the ringing detection neon photo-coupler 1 5. As a result, the latch circuits 1 6, 17 and 1 8 are rendered operative, thus activating the relay 1 3 to turn on the relay switches 12, also activating the relay 21 to turn on the switches 22, and further activating the relay 19 to turn on the switches 20. The incoming telephone set 3 and telephone set 4 are thus coupled together by the bilateral amplifier 23.
Thus, a dialing ready signal tone is coupled from the central office 5, to which the telephone set 4 is connected, through the bilateral amplifier 23 and incoming telephone set 3 to the telephone set 1.
Now, an MF signal can be transmitted from the telephone set 1. When the MF signal is transmitted, the memory in the central office 5, to which the telephone set 4 is connected, recognizes the signal to be produced by operating the push-phone dial of the telephone set 4. The MF signal is thus accepted in a predetermined procedure, and the registration or alteration of an abbreviated dial number is effected.
Where the telephone set 1 is a push-phone set, the MF signal can be sent out directly from the circuit of the telephone 4 by operating push button keys of the telephone set 1. If the telephone set 1 is not a push-phone set, a pushphone dial signal generator 25 may be provided in the vicinity of the handset of the telephone set 1 and operated, whereby the same effects may be obtained. Further, it is possible to use ratio transceivers in lieu of the telephone sets 1 and 3.
As has been described in the foregoing, with the device according to the present invention it is possible to freely register or alter an abbreviated dial number in the central office memory from a telephone set 1 other than the subscribed telephone set 4.
