Safes and strong-rooms.-Additional plates having grooves or recesses on their inner faces in which are housed fuzes leading to a chamber or recess containing an explosive, are secured to the walls of a safe, or to a strong-room door, in order to give the alarm by the detonation of the explosive when attempts are made to cut through the plates by the agency of the oxy-acetylene or like flame. The Figure shows plates F, with recesses H for the tape fuzes, secured round a safe I by bolts G inserted from the inside of the safe. A recess D with notches E in its outer wall to lessen its resistance to the shock of the explosion, contains an explosive charge to which lead the fuzes in the recesses H, the recess D being bounded by a flange Z into which bolts G are screwed to make a gas-tight chamber by the aid of packing between the flange Z and safe wall 1. If the plates F are pierced by flame, the fuzes cause the detonation of the charge in the chamber D, giving the alarm. The plates F may be bent over and welded as at K for further security of attachment to the safe. The recesses H may be replaced by tortuous grooves on the inner face of the plates, for housing the fuzes.
