Abstract

For communication between a sending and receiving instrument above ground (5) and a like instrument (6) in a pit cage, the information is transmitted at such a high carrier frequency that the transmission circuit formed by the lifting cable earthed above ground and the earth capacity of the pit cage has a sufficiently low ohmic resistance to ensure that the receiving instrument always receives the information. Transmission is at a carrier frequency, at which the inductance of the lifting cable and the earth capacity of the pit cage form a series resonance circuit, or substantially lower than the quotient of the velocity of light divided by twice the depth of the shaft. <IMAGE>
