Abstract
1485507 Test device having calibration reflector member; automatic analysis OLYMPUS OPTICAL CO Ltd 31 July 1974 [31 July 1973(11) 12 Dec 1973 20 June 1974 (2)] 15727/77 Divided out of 1485506 Heading G1B A chemical reaction testing piece 11 has one or more reagent containing absorptive carriers 11a- 11c positioned thereon and a calibration reflector 11s positioned either on the strip or on a test table 214 on which the strip rests. The test table may be moved towards or away from a measuring device by means of a stepped cam Fig. 18 (not shown). Immersion of the test piece in a test fluid causes colour changes of reagents in carriers 11a-11c. These changes are determined photo-electrically by reflection using reflector initially to establish a standard for the measurement circuit. The number and positions of the carrier defines a digital code by which the reagents present can be identified and from which measurement the absolute values can be determined from a memory linked with the measurement circuit and an output printer circuit. A plurality of the test sheets may be stored in a cassette Fig. 42 (not shown) and dispensed one at a time for use in automatic analysis. An automatic analysis system utilizing the cassette comprises, Fig. 44, rotary turn-table 481 for sample tubes, test sheet cassette 460, rollers 486, 487, 488, 489 for pulling a test sheet away from the cassette to bring it into contact with guide plane 490 which bends the test sheet so that it passes into a sample tube 11, movable block 485 which can be lifted to raise and lower the test sheet and colorimeter head 491 for making the measurements on the test sheet. In the embodiment of Figs. 46 and 47, Fig. 46 (not shown) the sample container Fig. 47, has a flat box-shaped portion which receives the test sheet and the measurements are made with the test sheet in the container. In the embodiment of Fig. 48 (not shown) the samples are each held in an upright syringe-like container having a flexible cap, sample being dripped on to the reagent carriers by depression of the caps with a push pin. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 58 (not shown) urine is dripped on to the reagent carriers as they are automatically conveyed from a pipette mounted on a rotating arm. In the embodiment of Figs. 54 to 56 (not shown) the test sheets are cut in turn from a roll (527) of test sheet material. The test sheets may be sealed between cellulose sheets which are peeled off as the test sheets are dispensed Fig. 62 (not shown).
