Abstract

1431989 Hypodermic syringes A L G GARCIA 31 May 1973 25941/73 Heading A5R A hypodermic syringe comprises a body 10 having a non-circular bore, a plunger 19 with a screw threaded portion 21 which engages a through bore with an internal thread in each of two spaced sealing elements 24, 25 which are sealingly engaged with the bore and thus define two compartments within the body for containing different medicament components for mixing prior to injection. The bore and sealing elements may have a hexagonal crosssection, the body being externally cylindrical. An end cap 15 having a bleed duct 20 and a bore to receive an unthreaded portion 17 of the plunger closes the body 10. The unthreaded portion 17 of the plunger may have a larger diameter than the threaded portion 21. In operation, a clip 26 holding the plunger against projection is removed, the plunger is rotated to withdraw it from one sealing element 25 until its inner end is flush with the inner face of the other sealing elements 24 to allow free mixing of the components in the compartments and the plunger is then projected to eject the mixture as the sealing elements 24, 25 are moved to the forward end of the body 10.
