Abstract

1411562 Cathode-ray tubes PLESSEY CO Ltd 11 Jan 1973 [13 Jan 1972] 1564/72 Heading H1D A truncated cone-shaped magnetic core E for receiving toroidal beam deflection coils of a cathode-ray tube has grooved insulating rings F<SP>1</SP> and G<SP>1</SP> (F and G in Fig. 1) attached to its two ends for the receipt of the wire turns-e.g. J, Fig. 1-ring F<SP>1</SP> having twice as many grooves as ring G<SP>1</SP>, such that a single layer winding on ring F<SP>1</SP> forms a double layer winding on ring G<SP>1</SP>, and the grooves in the two rings being arranged such that in one pair of opposite quadrants, 1 and 3 in Fig. 3, those in ring G<SP>1</SP> are aligned with the odd-numbered grooves in ring F<SP>1</SP>, while in the other pair of opposite quadrants 2 and 4, they are aligned with the even-numbered grooves in ring F<SP>1</SP>. This arrangement facilitates manufacture by permitting simultaneous winding of the horizontal and vertical deflection coils, which overlap one another in each quadrant (Fig. 2, not shown), without the introduction of an undue amount of asymmetry. The groove spacing is modified adjacent the quadrant boundaries to give the required change of alignment. A detailed example of a winding scheme is provided.
