Abstract

1407905 Fluid heaters BLACK SIVALLS & BRYSON Inc 2 April 1973 [3 Aug 1972] 15636/73 Heading F4S In a fluid heater comprising a main combustion chamber 11 provided with a number of gas-fired burners 14 and a plurality of heating tubes 18 divided into a pair of parallel tube banks 19 and 21, and a secondary chamber 25 detachably mounted on the main combustion chamber and provided with a plurality of further heating tubes 28, combustion gases generated by the burners recirculate within the chamber 11 around the tubes 18 before leaving via outlets 24 to be directed through conduits 36 into the chamber 25 wherein the gases pass over the tubes 28 before exiting via a plurality of outlet connections 38 into stacks 40. Fluid to be heated is conducted first through the tube banks 19 and 21 in chamber 11 and then through the tubes 28 in chamber 25. If desired the main and secondary chambers 11 and 25 may be of cylindrical shape, the tubes 18 and 28 may be continuous helical coils, and the fluid to be heated may be directed through the tubes 28 in the secondary chamber before passing through the tubes 18 in the main chamber. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) a pair of secondary chambers (42 and 44) are provided one on either side of the main combustion chamber (45).
