Abstract

1398403 Placing circuit elements STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 4 May 1973 [11 May 1972] 22135/72 Heading G4A A layout for an electric circuit comprising a number of interconnected units on a base is produced by a computer which treats each unit in turn and for each unit locates it on the base and interconnects it using data representing the size and shape of the base and of the units, the location of the connections to the base and the units, and circuit constraints, the routing of interconnections being determined by simulating the propagation of a wavefront through clear areas, i.e. areas not containing previously placed units or interconnections, on the base. If the computer fails to place a unit or a connection an alarm is given to enable manual rearrangement to allow the process to continue. Details of the final placements are printed out. A layout diagram may be produced on a visual display or a digital plotter. Layouts for single or double sided printed circuits or integrated circuits may be produced.
