Abstract
1389424 Electron beam magnetic deflecting apparatus RCA CORPORATION 23 May 1972 [14 Jan 1972] 24105/72 Heading H1D A magnetic deflection yoke is mounted on a platform which is secured to a cathode-ray tube by means of an adhesive. In Fig. 3 the platform 29 is provided with four spaced recesses 36 into which adhesive 39 is injected through respective passageways 37 to secure it to the neck of the tube. Four pairs of circumferentially extending lugs 43 on the platform 29 are adapted to be secured with adhesive 42 within troughs 45 provided in a housing 32 for the deflection yoke 31. The adhesives are preferably hot-melt thermoplastic materials and should remain solid at the respective operating temperatures of 50‹ and 100‹ C. but melt below the temperature (150‹ C.) at which damage to the yoke or tube would occur. In manufacture the yoke 31 is supported within its housing by flexible hooks 41 and mounted in a test rig around a colour tube with its attached platform 29. Whilst the tube is operating, the yoke is adjusted axially to align the colour centres, rotated until the raster is aligned with horizontal and vertical axes, translated vertically to superimpose the vertical and horizontal raster lines for each colour, and translated horizontally to equalize the raster size of each colour; the yoke may also be tilted to optimize the above conditions. The tube and yoke are then moved to a vertical position with the neck downwards whilst adhesive 42 is injected into the troughs 45 and also into passages 50 to secure the housing 32 to the platform 19 and also to the yoke 31. After the adhesive has solidified the tube may be retested before being removed from the test rig. In a modification (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the platform has a continuous circumferential recess bounded by thin side walls which can flex to allow thermal expansion or contraction. In a further modification (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) the deflection yoke is adjustably mounted on bolts which extend from the platform.
