Abstract

1384963 Multiple image holography KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 28 April 1972 19951/72 Heading G2J Image holograms, from which three-dimensional images are to be reconstructed, are formed by (a) preparing a transparency comprising a plurality of adjacent images of a three-dimensional object in which each image represents a view of the object from a different viewpoint; (b) locating the transpiracy between a coherent light source and a lens array consisting of as many spaced lenses as there are images on the transparency whereby on illuminating the transparency through a diffusing screen each image thereon is re-imaged by a respective lens on a record medium upon which is simultaneously incident a mutually coherent reference beam thus forming on such record a composite hologram of said images. Illumination of the hologram with an incoherent reconstruction beam gives a three-dimensional image of the object. Either the reference beam used in forming the hologram or the beam employed to reconstruct it, or both, is formed by radiation from a source, or towards a focal area, of finite size and shape. The record medium is located in the focal plane of the lens array. Coloured images may be reconstructed if either superimposed colour separation holograms are formed from separate transparencies, one for each primary colour for example, or a multicolour laser is used to illuminate the transparency and the hologram is recorded as a colour positive. The object may be imaginary and each image on the transparency may be of a derived viewpoint of such object as displayed on a cathode-ray tube. The adjacent images on the transparency may be recorded either by sequentially opening a shutter in front of an appropriate lens of an array to give separate exposures or a single lens located in a mask may be moved along two co-ordinate axes each position providing a desired exposure and image.
