Abstract
1278672 Method of producing stereographic image KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 19 June 1969 [20 June 1968 (2) 18 Nov 1968] 31178/69 Heading G2J A method of producing a stereographic image comprises making a record, for example with a conventional camera 1, the record containing a plurality of images, Fig.3 (not shown) made in succession and corresponding to different views of the object through points P 1 , P 2 ...P N spaced laterally by a distance d and similarly spaced vertically. Alternatively the record may contain a row of images each in the form of an elongated rectangle, Fig.7 (not shown). A beam 4 of coherent light passes through a condenser 5 and diffuser 6 and is then passed through the record 2<SP>1</SP> and directed through an aperture in a diaphragm 9 to a photographic plate 8. At the same time a reference beam 4<SP>1</SP> from the same source is incident on the plate 8. By moving the plate and the record 2<SP>1</SP> simultaneously a hologram is produced on the plate which comprises a plurality of elements each corresponding to one of the images on the record. A Fresnel lens (13), Fig.8 (not shown) may be used to direct the light passed through the record through the aperture. The hologram is developed and an image produced from it by illuminating it with coherent light. The view of the image from a given point will then correspond to a view of the object seen from a corresponding point. If a colour film and coherent light of different wavelengths are used a coloured image is obtained. A camera, Fig.11 (not shown) for use in preparing the record in the subject of Specification 1278673. Instead of using conventional photography the method may be applied to electron microscopy or to astronomical observations. The method may also be used to produce a stereographic image of an imaginary, mathematically derivable object, the record being produced using a computer which calculates the co-ordinates of an image projected through a given centre of projection and plots this on recording material, and then repeats this for a new centre of projection on new recording material, all the centres of projection lying on a common surface, which need not be planar.
