Abstract

1382598 Magnetic tape recording apparatus INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 6 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 56182/72 Heading G5R Data blocks 7, 9 on magnetic tape 1 have recorded therewith log marks 13, 14, the record apparatus including a direction indicator 15 which indicates the direction of the last-recorded log mark 14 relative to the magnetic head 16; log marks prior to the last-recorded one being erased when the tage drive is reversed. Since each data block also has recorded therewith a complete machine log 8, 10 giving the allocation of data to tape blocks as at the time of writing of the respective block, the last-recorded log mark indicates the position of the up-to-date machine log. The direction indicator is a mechanical switch. As described, the system is as in Specification 1,341,526 (Heading G4H) and includes a typewriter for entering test to be recorded on a tape which is disposed in cassette and has perforations 2 between each data block. The perforations are sensed and counted.
