Abstract

1307112 Colour television MAGNAVOX CO 11 May 1970 [12 May 1969 2 Oct 1969 1 May 1970] 22658/70 Heading H4F An arrangement for improving the display of flesh tones in a television receiver of the NTSC type comprises a phase detector responsive to chrominance signals within a given phase range (say IŒ30 degrees) and controlling the generation of a correction signal which when combined with the chrominance signal produces flesh-tone representation by signals nearer or equal to I. In one embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) signals at I + 30 and I - 30 degrees are gated with the chrominance signal and control the generation of signals which when added thereto produce a resultant close to I for tones near flesh, and much smaller phase changes for tones between 30 and 52À5 degrees away from flesh, other tones being unaffected. In another embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the chrominance signal (preferably after limiting) is added to a reference I signal and if the resultant has a magnitude exceeding a threshold (greater than that of the reference signal) then the received chrominance signal is blocked and the resultant of the addition (which has a phase angle nearer to I) is substituted.
