Abstract

1299602 Selective signalling BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 Jan 1970] 54504/69 Heading G4H [Also in Division H4] An electrical communication system for sequentially addressing a plurality of receivers connected to a common channel, includes: a pseudo-random pulse generator for transmitting a chain-code along the channel, each receiver including a shift-register connected to receive each of the pulses in the chain-code, means for storing a different one of the unique combinations in the chain and means for comparing the stored combination with the register contents, whereby each receiver is addressed in turn during the generation of a single chain-code. Each receiver is at a respective passenger seat in an aircraft, equality in the comparison causing information in a passenger request unit to be read out and transmitted on the channel before the next bit of the chain-code is sent. The means for storing the unique combination respective to a particular receiver is a milled plate which displaces four mechanical contacts each to one of two positions to connect the true or inverse output of a respective stage of the shift-register to a 4-input NAND gate. The chain-code is accompanied by major and minor sync pulses and several channels of multiplexed audio entertainment. The minor sync pulses discriminate between repetitions of the audio channels and reset a counter in the receiver if any channels are lost. The major sync pulses (one before each chain-code bit) are used in the addressing.
