Abstract

1299427 Selective signalling BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1969] 8047/70 Heading G4H An electrical communication system includes a transmission line connected at one end to a transmitter and terminated at the other end by the characteristic impedance of the line, and at least one receiver connected to an intermediate point along the line, the receiver including encoding means operative during a transmission to the reveiver to intermittently load the line with an impedance, whereby the resulting characteristic variations in the line voltage constitute a binary coded response to the transmitted signal. The transmitter selects the receiver in turn by transmitting a chain code which is recognised by a shift register in the appropriate receiver. The states of manual switches in the selected receiver are encoded, and in response to a train of pulses on the line from the transmitter, the pulses of the encoded results are each used to connect the impedance mentioned to the line, the resulting pattern of variations in line voltage being decoded at the transmitter and used to effect indication or control. The load impedance in each receiver has the same value as the terminating impedance of the line, which is a coaxial cable. The system can be used for passenger requirement signalling in an aircraft.
