Abstract

1294941 Electron-beam magnetic deflecting apparatus ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 13 Jan 1970 [13 Jan 1969] 1623/70 Heading H1D A magnetic deflection yoke for a cathode-ray tube, especially a colour television tube, is supported by means which allow independent adjustments of the angular and axial positions of the yoke. Fig. 1 shows an exploded view of the assembly wherein the deflection yoke 22 is surrounded by a clamp 30 having radially extending arms 138 adapted to engage in guide slots 72 in the surrounding mounting means 24 whereby rotation is restrained but axial movement is permitted. A ring 28 is provided, with helical slots 100 engaged by reduced end portions 140 of arms 138, so that rotation of the ring 28 produces axial movement, of the deflection yoke; after such axial movement a screw 148 may be used to lock the clamp 30 in the selected position. A screw 128 on the clamp 30 may be slackened when the deflection yoke is to be rotated, and tightened again afterwards. The mounting means 24 is provided with tabs 64 adapted to engage the conical part of the tube and may be secured to the tube by an adhesive or by wires. The axially extending arms 70 containing the guide slots 72 may terminate in a web 86 provided with an aperture 88 for the neck of the tube, and may be provided with fastening means 90 to which a panel 32 may be secured. This panel may support radial convergence magnets for the tube plus associated circuitry and may take the form of a printed circuit board. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), one of the helical slots 100 is formed in a separate axially adjustable plate mounted on the ring 28, so that such axial adjustment produces tilting of the deflection yoke. In another modification (Figs. 10-14, not shown),' the web 86 is omitted and the panel 32 is secured to the arms 70 by means which allow it to be rotated and then clamped in the required angular position. The clamp 30 is formed in two parts, an inner clamp which clamps the ferrite core of the deflection yoke together and an outer clamp which locks the yoke against rotation. In another modification (Fig. 15, not shown), the chordal resilient members 52 which engage the ring portion 36 of the yoke, are replaced by resilient bridges inside the ring 50, and the central aperture in web 86 is square with adjacent slots to allow the sides of the square to distort to the shape of the tube neck.
