Abstract

1291297 Valves P W AUGER 14 May 1971 [2 July 1970] 32227/70 Heading F2V A mixer tap 10 comprises a body 11 having a cold water inlet 13, a hot water inlet 14, and a water outlet 15, the two inlets and the one outlet communicating with a hollow cylindrical bore 12 formed in the body. Control of flow is achieved by means of a hollow spool 16 which is rotatable within the body bore and which has oppositely tapering slots 17 and 18 designed to register with the inlet ports 13 and 14 and a central slot 19 designed to register with the outlet port 15. In dependance upon the relative dispositions of the spool and body, inlets 13 and 14 registers with the spool interior via slots 17 and 18, respectively, and the spool interior registers with the outlet 15 via slot 19. On rotation of the spool in a given direction one of the inlet ports 13 and 14 is progressively opened whilst the other is progressively closed. Sealing members 20, 21, carried on the spool, serve, in the closed state of the tap, to obturate inlet 13 and outlet 15. A further sealing member may be provided to seal inlet 14 also. The spool is rotatable by a spindle 24 co-operating with a slot 25 in the spool.
