A transducer for sensing the load on a vehicle axle comprises at least two resistance strain gauges 8 bonded to a spring steel plate 6 adapted to form two simple cantilevers when mounted between the axle and a spring, or between leaves of the spring, or between the spring and its U-bolt plate or on top of the spring retained by a further clamping spring. A central bolt or pin 9 passing through the leaves of the spring passes through a locating hole in the spring steel plate. A transducer is preferably provided for each spring of the or each axle of the vehicle, the transducers for the same axle being connected to form a temperature-compensated bridge circuit.
