Abstract

1,241,111. Colour television tubes. SONY CORP. 14 April, 1969 [14 April, 1968], No. 18980/69. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube of the type wherein a plurality of beams pass through the centre of a common focusing lens and emerge along divergent paths and are subsequently converged on a shadow mask or the like by electrostatic deflecting means, the latter are adapted to converge the beams even if they are not in the designed positions due to manufacturing errors. In Fig. 11, there are three co-planar beams B B , B G and B R which should lie along the x axis but in fact lie along the line a. The convergence plates P<SP>1</SP> and Q<SP>1</SP> are coaxial cylinder segments centred on O 1 , and P<SP>11</SP> and Q<SP>11</SP> are similarly centred on O 2 so that each convergence field produces a force which has a component along the y axis, unlike the known planar electrode system (Fig. 3, not shown). The cylinder segments may all be coaxial (Fig. 10, not shown), or the system may comprise two coaxial cylinders (Figs. 6-9, not shown). The latter arrangment is also suitable when the three electron beams are in delta formation.
