Abstract
1,231,369. Soot blowers. DIAMOND POWER SPECIALITY CORP. 15 April, 1970 [16 June, 1969], No. 17996/70. Heading F2N. In a retractable soot blower, a supply hose or conductor 34 to a drive motor 32, which is mounted with the blower tube 24 on a movable carriage 16, is helically wound between a fixed support 40 and a movable support 50 mounted with the motor, and is carried in a guide tube or trough 36 fixed to a frame 20. The tube 36, as shown, is of circular cross-section, closed at both ends, and has a longitudinal slot 48 in its base along which the support 50 slides. The trough, Fig. 4 (not shown), is of arcuate crosssection and has a series of holes longitudinally spaced in its base for removal of foreign matter, the movable support being above the trough. The tube or trough is made of, or lined with, a low friction plastics material. The conductor 34 supplies an electric, pneumatic or hydraulic motor 32 which, through gearing, extends or retracts the blower tube 24 whilst simultaneously imparting a rotary motion so that cleaning fluid issues from the blower tube's nozzles in a helical pattern for effective cleaning. The cleaning fluid supply to the tube 24 is fed through a control valve, Fig. 1 (not shown) actuated by the carriage travel so that the fluid only enters tube 24 when its nozzles are inside the heat exchanger or boiler.
